Writing

Ever since I was little, I've always loved to write. Whether that be a short story or poetry, I've found that it's a form of self reflection and therapy. If I can't speak about something, I sure can write about it. One of my earliest memories of writing poetry was when I was in the fourth grade, and the teacher had us write samples to showcase that we had retained the information. I wrote a Sonnet about a day at the beach. I left my notebook on the desk with the poem open and then went to go read my book. After my teacher read it, she came up to me and asked if I was willing to read it to the class because she really liked it. I did, and she then later took a photocopy of it to hang on the whiteboard so everyone else could see it. That was the first time I realized I had a talent for writing, and decided to keep going at it.

This eventually lead me into songwriting. The first song I ever wrote was called 'Pop Princess' and I was about 10 years old. It was about Hollywood in the way I had perceived it - glamourous, perfect, and absolutely no issues. As I got older, the way I wrote changed as well as the subjects. It was no longer about a perfect Hollywood life, but rather about a traumatic experience or that I had a really big crush on a guy. I stopped looking at life through rose colored lenses and decided to write about things that were relevant to me. I go through phases where I'll go for weeks without writing anything at all, but I try to do it at least every few days. I do it as a way to keep my brain creative, and this page showcases samples of some of my favorite original works.

Water

I started writing this one in October 2022, and finished it in April 2023. It's about needing somebody so much that it feels you would starve without them. The main line is "You're my rain, you're my hurricane, I need you like the desert needs water". Here are some of my other favorite lines from it:

"Every heart that loves is a heart that's been broken. You're like throwing something into the ocean. Cause I won't find it ever again. If it's true it's not meant to end"

"Not every wound is the kind that bleeds. As long as you're in my lungs I can breathe"

The Very First Night

This one is about reflecting on the past and seeing that the signs have been there since the first time you ever interacted with them. Ever since the first time you were in their presence, you knew that you belonged with them on a certain level. You might have read the signs wrong in the past, but you didn't this time. It may have taken some time, but you ended up right where you were supposed to be. Here are my favorite lines:

"Talking about forever but you never know"

"We've said so much before without even using words"

Time Won't Tell

This is a play on words of the phrase "only time will tell". It's about someone who I thought I was going to be with forever, but now I see that I'm not. We both ended up where we were meant to be, which is ultimately for the better. We went on with our lives because that was what we needed, but that doesn't mean I couldn't write out my feelings. Here are some of my favorite lines:

"I unblock you sometimes but don't get it twisted. I saw that you're verified but you're still on my hit list. You'll be alright and have that white picket dream. I hope you don't leave her crying like you did with me"

"I'm not scared I'll run into you. If I did would you even know that it's me? Or am I something that your eyes can't see? It's been too long, I don't even know you now. I wanted you in my heart but you wanted out"

My Face

This one is about when your whole life has changed because a person entered your world, and you don't want to go back to how it was when you didn't know them because they've changed your life so much. You found a home in this person, and you've been changed for the better. I sincerely hope everyone finds someone who makes them feel like this, because I never want to give mine up. Here are some of my favorite lines:

"Bet you didn't know I was crying at the airport when I had to leave the state. Although through everything we've done my feelings have never changed"

"I still feel the butterflies every time you look my way. I sincerely hope there's never a day where that goes away. Every little thing that comes out of your mouth I like how it sounds. Wasn't sure if I'd ever find home but it sure as hell isn't a town"

Acid Trip

This is the first and only song I've ever written that has a literal drug reference in it. It's referring to being so in love with someone that it feels like you're on acid. The person is so intoxicating and being with them gives the feeling that you're floating on air. I've definitely had that experience in my life, and in a lot of ways I feel like I'm still in it. I've never done acid or any drug in my life, but if I had I feel like this is what it would be like. Here are some of my favorite lines:

"I had love for you then so have times really changed, are they the same?"

"I used to only be attracted to men that would ruin my life. I tend to run my mouth but it's all yours for the rest of your nights"

If You Were With Me

I've never done this before. I wrote two different things with the same title from two different perspectives. The first perspective is thinking about the "what if" with someone you thought you were going to be with forever. The second perspective is you're not going to wonder about the "what if" because you are going to be with them forever. Here are my favorite lines from each version:

Sad: "I know you've got your reasoning. But why wasn't one of them me?"

Happy: "Spent a lot of lonely hours dancing on the edge. Chased after boys who wanted someone else. But all we needed as one time to get it right"
